No bail for Sask. man who was subject of dangerous persons alert

NORTH BATTLEFORD - A man who was the subject of a dangerous persons alert by Spiritwood RCMP remains in custody. Kelly Witchekan, 22, is accused of robbing a person at gunpoint in September 2022. He is also charged with assault with a weapon, having a sawed-off .22 rifle, and prohibited firearms related offences.

A warrant of committal for Witchekan was issued on March 14, and his matter was adjourned to April 14 to be spoken to.

Spiritwood RCMP had issued a dangerous persons alert and identified Witchekan as one of the armed suspects on foot after shots were fired on Witchekan Lake First Nation on Sept. 5, 2022. Witchekan was arrested in Saskatoon the next night.

The charges against Witchekan haven't been tested in court.
