SPIRITWOOD- Two Pelican Lake First Nation men were arrested following a drug trafficking investigation by Spiritwood RCMP.

Mathew Whitstone, 30, and Byron Peekeekoot, 40, face numerous weapons-related and drug trafficking offences.

On April 30, at about 3:30 p.m., Spiritwood RCMP received a report that a conservation officer with the Provincial Protective Services Branch conducted a traffic stop in Leoville.  Spiritwood RCMP responded and their investigation determined the driver of the vehicle was wanted on a warrant by Spiritwood RCMP for failing to appear in court.

During further investigation, officers located and seized about 43 grams of crack cocaine, 52 grams of methamphetamine, bear spray, brass knuckles, an imitation pistol, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and a sum of cash in the vehicle.

Whitstone and Peekeekoot are both charged with possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Whitstone was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and additionally charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a court order.

Whitstone and Peekeekoot appear in Spiritwood Circuit Court on June 25.
