Police apprehend attempted murder suspect Dominic Ahenakew

PRINCE ALBERT – RCMP have located and arrested attempted murder suspect 31-year-old Dominic Ahenakew of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on Aug. 13.

Ahtahkakoop RCMP, along with officers from the Battlefords RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT), and the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant at a home on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation and arrested Ahenakew and another man without incident. Officers located and seized six firearms following a thorough search of the residence.

Ahenakew was charged with attempted murder, and four firearms-related offences.

Lanny Joseph, 32, of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation was also arrested on several outstanding warrants unrelated to the attempted murder investigation and charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, two counts of flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, break and enter to a business, possession of property obtained by crime, driving while prohibited, and three weapons-related offences.

Both Ahenakew and Joseph were remanded in custody to appear in court Aug. 15.
