Police arrest two youths after confrontation with weapons

A police service dog and handler were successful in tracking the suspects to the area of 20th Street West and Avenue A South.

SASKATOON – Police arrested two youth Thursday morning following a confrontation involving weapons.

On March 25, at around 1:45 a.m., police observed a confrontation occurring between three persons. As officers began to approach, two males fled the area. The remaining male victim told police that the two fleeing suspects had chased and threatened him with weapons.

A police service dog and handler were successful in tracking the suspects to the area of 20th Street West and Avenue A South where they were arrested without incident. Further investigation led police to locating video evidence of the suspects disposing of two bladed weapons, an imitation firearm, and a can of bear spray into a nearby garbage bin. All items were recovered and seized.

Two males, age 14 and 15, are facing several weapons-related charges as a result. Both were also found to be breaching court-imposed conditions and the 14-year-old is facing an additional charge of obstructing a police officer by providing a false name.
