Update: Police re-open highway near Waseca and arrest two people

RCMP say there is a serious police investigation ongoing.

This evening, RCMP officers from multiple detachments followed a vehicle which fled from police on Highway 16.

WASECA - Update: Two individuals are in policy custody. Travel on Highway 16 will resume. Police thank the public for their cooperation as this investigation unfolded. More information to come later today.

Highway 16 at Waseca is currently blocked in both directions in relation to a serious ongoing police investigation. For safety reasons, detours are not in place at this time. Motorists can expect significant delays and the public should not approach police at the scene.

This evening, RCMP officers from multiple detachments followed a vehicle which fled from police on Highway 16. For safety reasons given the high-traffic road, a spike belt was used and the vehicle ultimately stopped on Highway 16 near Waseca. This investigation is ongoing and police are on scene at this time.

Police say they do not have further information to share at this time and updates will be provided as they become available. The public should avoid the area of Highway 16 at Waseca.

A report by Highway Hotline said police are on scene of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 16 westbound and both lanes are closed since about 8:19 p.m. Tuesday.
