SWAT operation on Garnet Street, Regina, results in arrest

Police surrounded a residence, but when the suspect didn't respond, the SWAT team was deployed.

REGINA — Regina Police Service says a police operation on the 1200 block of Garnet Street has concluded and an arrest has been made.

On May 21, at approximately 11:10 a.m., police were in the area of 7th Avenue and Garnet Street and located a male who was wanted on warrants for offences which include firearm violence. When challenged by police, the male did not comply with police commands, and entered a residence on the 1200 block of Garnet Street.

Police say they surrounded the residence and attempts to contact the male were unsuccessful. A search warrant was authorized and the Regina Police Service Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team was deployed. Police entered the residence and arrested the male. A search revealed ammunition.

A 39-year-old Regina man has been charged with two counts of possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order.
