Youth arrested on firearm charges

Police recovered a firearm, which was revealed to be a loaded AirSoft BB gun.

REGINA — A youth has been charged after a report of someone being seen carrying a firearm was reported to Regina Police Service.

On Friday, March 8, shortly after 9 a.m., police were dispatched to the 2700 block of 5th Avenue for the report of a male with a firearm. Information provided was that there were two males seen walking together, and one was carrying a firearm.

Police arrived and located the males in the east alley of the 1000 block of Rae Street. The armed male ran between houses after police challenged the male to stop. Police located the male in the west alley and arrested him. Police recovered the firearm, which was revealed to be a loaded AirSoft BB gun. A search of the male upon arrest revealed a large knife.

A 16-year-old male, who will not be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:

  • possession of a weapon; and
  • carry concealed weapon.
