It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas when the annual Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary’s Christmas auction was held at the Preeceville Club 60 on November 30.
There were numerous items up for auction, including a vast assortment of goodies, homemade bread, lefsa, gift surprise bags, handmade pillows, blankets, trinkets, mittens, toques and Christmas crafts.
Elaine Christopherson, president of the auxiliary, welcomed everyone in attendance.
“I would like to thank everyone for the support over the past many years, whether it be at our May tea, this auction or through donations and memorials,” she said. “There have been quite a few donations and memorial funds to be used for our hospital. This past year, our purchases included: a vein finder, a silicone mattress at the cost of $20,375, and wall suction regulators. We have also approved the purchase of two blood pressure temperature monitors with stands and alternating mattresses and we continue to offer bursaries to graduates from Preeceville and Sturgis. We bought flowers for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and we planted flowers at the front of the hospital."
Monica Dutchak, the health services manager, offered her appreciation to the bidders and auxiliary members. Mayor Garth Harris was the first auctioneer to kick off the program.
Auxiliary members helping at the auction were: Agnes Murrin, Margaret Neitling, Hazel Arnie, Grace Predy, Lila Duff, Karen Berezitzky, Sharon Buchinski, Darlene Medlang, Elaine Christopherson and Bonnie Paul. Kaeley Neitling volunteer to help the auxiliary members with the evening auction.
"On behalf of the entire community, I would like to express a huge thank-you to the auxiliary members for all their hard work and dedication to fundraising for the hospital. The auxiliary is the grass roots organization of the fundraising community," said Harris.
The auction concluded with lunch and refreshments.
There were two auctioneers participating. Garth Harris started the program but Sharon Buchinski did the majority of the auctioning of items.
The raffle winners were: Karen Zubko, $500 first prize; Joel Christopherson, grocery hamper; and Hazel Arnie, lap blanket.
Cheyenne Poruchnek won the door prize.
