Constance (Connie) Cowan

Constance (Connie) Cowan September 30, 1913- February 6, 2012 On Monday, February 6, 2012 Connie passed away very peacefully at her home at Hillview Manor in Estevan. She is survived by her son, Tom (Ivy) Cowan, Shaunavon, Sask., Eileen (Dennis) Kendall, Estevan, Sask.; one sister, Blanche Gettling, Burnaby, B.C.; four grandchildren, Tom Cowan Jr. (Janis Fennemore), Edmonton, Alta., Shaun (Erin) Cowan, Vancouver, B.C., Kimberly Cowan and Aaron, Samantha and Keith, Swift Current, Sask., Jason Cowan, Edmonton, Alta., and her extended family, Allan (Annette) Kendall, Teresa (Larry) Stamler, Tammy (Jeff) Leel and their families and numerous nieces and nephews. Connie was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Annie Evered; her husband Ted of 56 years, a daughter, Barbara in infancy; 1 brother and 4 sisters. Connie was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. on September 30, 1913. Her parents and four siblings had moved from England and she was the first of three more girls born in Canada. She took all her schooling in Moose Jaw and was active in baseball and sports days, took piano lessons and joined a band with her siblings and friends. She met Ted Cowan as a teenager and they were married in 1938 and moved to Estevan where Ted had worked for CPR since 1936. Connie was very active in the Anglican Church where she sang in the choir for over 70 years, taught Sunday school and belonged to the Women's Auxiliary. She was an avid 5 and 10 pin bowler, winning single and team competitions. She loved the concerts and competitions she took part in when she sang with the Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus. She loved to travel with Ted and her young family across the country visiting family and friends, then with Ted when they retired. She continued to travel on cruises and excursions with two of her sisters as widows. As Mom's body started to fail her, she needed more help with her daily living and she decided at 96 years of age, to move to Hill View Manor where she lived happily until her passing. Everyone there was very special and very kind to her. We were truly blessed to have her with us for so long and she will be terribly missed. Because of her lifelong love of all music and her joyous personality we have no doubt that she danced her way through the gates of Heaven ... and Heaven has a new angel. Connie always had a beautiful smile and warm hug for everyone. She was always very kind, loving, understanding and never demeaning. Her outlook on life was great, her cup was always half full, never half empty and she accepted everyone as they were. She loved her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren very much and was always happy to see them and hear what they were doing. This is how they felt: Dear Grandma, Great-Grandma You've always encouraged us to follow our hearts And no matter how busy or complicated our lives get One of the places our hearts always lead us to is straight back to you And your always-there-for-us love. You're at the heart of so much in our world. - We love you. Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2012 from St. Giles Anglican Church, Estevan with Rev. Marlene Haygarth officiating. Interment followed at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Paul Shier, Gordie Lawrence, Larry Stamler, Walter Lukye, Dennis Kendall and Allan Kendall .
