REGINA — February is  African-Canadian/Black History Month in Saskatchewan, to honour and recognize the legacy of African-Canadians across the province.

For 2024, the theme being used by the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum (SACHM)” is "Black resistance", which celebrates how African-Canadian people have resisted oppression, discrimination and prejudice throughout history.

This year also marks the 20th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum.

"It is important to acknowledge the contributions African-Canadians have made to our province and to understand the vital roles played in our history,” SACHM Executive Director Carol LaFayette-Boyd said.

“With the theme of "Resistance" SACHM hopes that all citizens will continue to resist racism, prejudice and discrimination and instead embrace diversity, inclusion and equity.

"As 2024 is the last year of the United Nations Declaration of International Decade for People of African Descent, SACHM continues to be optimistic that the theme of recognition, justice and development is occurring and continues in Saskatchewan."
