MOOSOMIN — Moosomin town council has approved a resolution to increase gravel crushing this year.
System III Ltd. of Kipling assured the Town that Moosomin is top of the list this spring with the amount of gravel being brought in going from 25,000 yds to 40,000 yds for the price of $7.05 per yard or less.
Walking trail request
The group planning to build a walking trail in Moosomin submitted a request for some of that resource for their project.
“We would need to have the town deliver the gravel to specific areas for our volunteers to spread accordingly,” noted Bill Thorn in a letter to the Town.
The plan is to establish a four-kilometre walking trail with rest stations that include benches with one at approximately each kilometre point. In a proposed capital budget, the group is requesting 200 yards as a base to cover the entire path, five feet wide and two inches deep. They’re estimating the gravel cost alone at $8,800, then lumped in with doggie stations, trash and recycling receptacles, drainage provisions, signage and contingency, the total capital comes to $15,000. The group also anticipates their annual operating budget to be $3,900, accounting for trash and recycling pickup; bags; trail maintenance; and contingency.
Back on Dec. 13, Thorn and Rick Poirer attended the Council meeting as a delegation, which Council agreed to the project and noted Public Works would assist as required.
Ultimately, Council decided they would accommodate as soon as they could provide the gravel.
