Shelly Palmer - OpenAI's big news about ChatGPT

"Agentic" is a fancy word for "agency," which (in this case) is a fancy word for "control" or "autonomy."

Greetings from NYC. OpenAI is holding a press conference today at 10 a.m. PT to unveil something so awesome that they didn't want the press to have it in advance. Some people say "search," others say "voice." We'll know later today. I promise to cover it tomorrow.

While you're thinking about getting the most out of large language models (LLMs), my Sunday essay, Agentic RAG: Enhancing Generative AI with Proprietary Data, is about how to safely use your company's proprietary data with any LLM. It covers the benefits, potential use cases, and the commitment required to get the most out of your AI tech stack.

BTW, "agentic" is a fancy word for "agency," which (in this case) is a fancy word for "control" or "autonomy." The dictionary definition: "the capacity to act, exert power, or influence." You're going to hear it a lot over… um… the rest of your life. It's the new-new too-cool-for-school jargony buzzword. Agentic tools are a thing. If you have a better term, now is the time to let the world know.

As always your thoughts and comments are both welcome and encouraged. Just reply to this email. -s
