The iconic Canadian characters, Bob and Doug McKenzie, are returning to Canadian airwaves to help stop this year’s 4.7 per cent increase in the federal beer (and other alcohol) excise duties proposed by the Trudeau government.

Beer Canada says it deeply appreciates Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas agreeing to reprise their historic roles as Bob and Doug McKenzie to talk directly to beer lovers across the country and help stop this ill-timed beer tax hike.

Unless Parliament takes action, beer, wine and spirits taxes will rise by more than 5 per cent (duty plus GST/HST/PST Impact) on April 1, says Beer Canada.

“Canada is already the G7 country with the highest overall beer taxes, accounting for nearly 50 per cent of the consumer price. Given the current fiscal challenges facing middle-class Canadians due to higher prices for goods and services and a spike in interest rates this is the worst time to impose with the largest beer tax hike on Canadians in almost 40 years,” states a release by Beer Canada.

The first advertisement, "Happy 2000 and Two-Four," will air on select Canadian radio stations across the country beginning tomorrow and is available on Hereforbeer.ca, along with two exclusive web spots. Keep an eye out for additional radio ads that will be released in the coming weeks.
