REGINA - There has been another fatal house fire in Regina.

Regina Fire and Protective Services are reporting that they responded to a fire at the 2100 block of Winnipeg St at 12:39 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to Regina Fire, they had responded to a call from a passerby. According to the fire department, on arrival they found flames and smoke from the home. They report the fire was fully involved, with flames coming from the roof.

Regina Fire reported that their crews worked to put the fire out and once it was safe to enter the residence they did so. They made entry, and located two occupants on the 2nd floor who were declared deceased on scene.

Regina Police also are reporting they were called to the same residence at around 12:40 a.m., and they report that when officers arrived, Regina Fire was already on the scene battling a large fire.

This is another fatal house fire this month in Regina. Two people also died in a fire on Dec. 9 on Rae Street.

"This is the second double fatality caused by fire that Regina has seen in less than two weeks,” said Layne Jackson, Regina Fire Chief, in a statement. “Any fire-related fatality is tragic. It is important that our community is diligent in fire safety. I urge all residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms. Please be safe.”

Fire Chief Jackson has a media availability planned for later this afternoon where more details are expected to come out.

Regina Fire remains on scene as of this morning.The cause is still being determined, and RFPS are working on a joint investigation with Regina Police Service and the Coroner’s Office to determine the cause.

Police officers have been providing traffic control and assistance to those affected this morning, and have secured the scene. Police say they will remain on site until the investigation is complete.
