Kinsmen Terriers start playoffs on top

The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers of the SSMHL Midget league skated to a 9-2 victory over the Lumsden/Bethune Lions on Thursday, Feb. 16 to put a cap on their regular season.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers of the SSMHL Midget league skated to a 9-2 victory over the Lumsden/Bethune Lions on Thursday, Feb. 16 to put a cap on their regular season.

This win secured them the second place spot in league standings, with a record of 28-4-4-0. The second place standing paired them with the seventh place Swift Current K-Motel Broncos for the first round of playoffs.

Yorton and Swift Current faced off three times during the regular season, with Yorkton taking two wins and one game ending in a tie.

Playoffs kicked off on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Farrell Agencies Arena. The final score of the game was 10-1. It wasn’t a tough win for the Kinsmen Terriers, who scored five goals in the first period alone.

Yorkton’s goals came from Ashton Shewchuk (3), Carter Lake (2), Reid Arnold, Tyler Shankowsky, Colin MacDonald, Michael Coleride and Colby Vranai.

The next two games between the Kinsmen Terriers and the Broncos will take place in Swift Current. They play on Friday, Feb. 24 and again on Monday, Feb. 27. Then the action will return to Yorkton on Wednesday, March 1. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. at the Farrell Agencies Arena.
