Kinsmen Terriers take round one

The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers of the South Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League finished the first round of their playoff bracket on top. They won the first three games in their best-of-five series against the Swift Current K-Motel Broncos.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers of the South Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League finished the first round of their playoff bracket on top.

They won the first three games in their best-of-five series against the Swift Current K-Motel Broncos.

The first game, played at the Farrell Agencies Arena on Feb. 19, finished with a score of 10-1.Goals came from Ashton Shewcuk (3), Carter Lake (2), Reid Arnold, Tyler Shankowsky, Colin MacDonald, Michael Coleridge and Colby Vranai.

The second game was played in Swift Current on Friday, Feb. 24, and the Kinsmen Terriers won 5-2. Yorkton’s goals came from Colby Vranai (2), Ashton Shewchuk, Tyler Shankowsky and Luke Schappert.

The third and final game of the series was played back at the FAA on Sunday, Feb. 26. The Kinsmen Terriers came out with a 3-1 victory.

Yorkton’s goals were scored by Ashton Shewchuk, the only goal from Yorkton in the first period. Swift Current would tie it up before the period ended.

In the second, Yorkton secured the win with two goals. The goals came from Dreyden Haberman and Colby Vranai.

The third period saw no goal action.

The Kinsmen Terriers now wait to see who they will face in round two of playoffs. The Notre Dame Hounds and the Estevan Apex Bruins will play the fifth game of their series on March 1, to see who will advance to play the Kinsmen Terriers in round two.
