AIR RONGE — Dorene Stonechild doesn’t buy lottery tickets often, but the Air Ronge local is now celebrating a major win on a Lotto Max and Extra ticket.
“I only play once in a blue moon,” she said. “Sometimes I buy tickets and then stick them in my car — I checked this one and didn’t believe it at first.”
Stonechild won $100,020 on the May 27 Extra draw — and was immediately in shock.
“I was trying to call my sister [to tell her the news], but she wouldn’t answer her phone,” she laughed. “I had to leave a message.”
Stonechild said her sister called back and was worried at first because of how flustered she sounded in the voicemail.
“I didn’t believe it,” she admitted. “I still can’t believe that I actually won. I always thought it would be nice to win someday.”
The Air Ronge local said she has plans for how to spend the windfall already.
“I love to travel, so I’d definitely like to do a trip,” she said. “I am also doing renos on my house, so I’ll use some winnings for that.”
“I know this kind of money will definitely help a lot,” she added.
Stonechild purchased her winning Lotto Max and Extra ticket from Lake Country Co-op at 302 Fairchild St. in Air Ronge. She won her prize by matching the last six numbers in the May 27 Extra selection: 1090046.
