BATTLEFORD — Battleford town council gave its approval to the proposed 2025 Strategic Plan at its recent meeting.

The plan covers 2025 to 2028 and provides a guideline map for the town to follow in the future.

"Our CAO worked really hard on the strategic plan," said Deputy Mayor Clayton Lazar. "We consulted. We all met months ago to get our strategic plan in place for the next four years and it worked out good. We do have some great objectives that we want to go off of that strategic plan with."

The vision statement of the town is to foster a safe and inclusive community that is rich in history, where families thrive, businesses prosper and visitors are welcomed.

The mission statement indicates that the town will be efficient and fiscally responsible, and "sensitive to the needs while being inclusive and embracing the past."

Some of the priorities and goals in the strategic plan are to focus on safety, to provide a community where residents can "move about any time of the day."

The town also has a goal of sustainable infrastructure, which includes continuing to enhance walkability and prioritizing paving projects based on need.

Quality of life is another priority in the plan, with the goal to make the town a desirable place to live and raise a family.

The strategic plan also focuses on economic development to support local businesses and attract new investment to build a strong economy.

Tourism is another priority, with plans to showcase historic Battleford and its unique offerings to increase visitors.

Some of the current projects that align with the strategic plan include installing a ramp at the Fred Light Museum to improve wheelchair accessibility, and adding pathway lighting at Battle Springs Park to improve safety and quality of life for residents.
