BATTLEFORD — Battleford town council gave the go-ahead for new lighting for the pathway at Battle Springs Park at its recent meeting.
Council approved awarding the contract to Big Horn Electric Ltd. for a total estimated cost of $39,113. The project involves installing new lighting through Battle Springs Park and is within the allocated $50,000 budget.
Big Horn Electric Ltd. had the lowest price of three bids received.
Parks and recreation manager Jordan Schechtel said the project aligns with the town's new strategic plan by increasing safety, enhancing quality of life and being fiscally responsible.
Coun. Kevin Russell was in favour of the project.
"I like it. We've been talking about this project for a long time. Lots of residents reached out to me, and I like to see it's going ahead," he said.
Schechtel said the work will start right away but may not be finished until late October.
Deputy Mayor Clayton Lazar said: "It's good to see we'll be getting a lot of lighting down there, which is necessary. That is such a frequently used spot for a lot of our residents that we would like it to be fully lit. It's heading towards our campground."
