COCHIN — The rollover of an unmarked police vehicle Thursday has resulted in the hospitalization of a Battlefords RCMP detachment member with serious injuries.
According to the RCMP, an on-duty RCMP officer with Battlefords Detachment was responding to a call for service in an unmarked police vehicle with emergency equipment activated when the rollover occurred. The rollover on Highway 4 at Cochin was reported to the detachment at approximately 6 p.m., Aug. 21.
At the scene, the officer was attended to by a member of the public as well as Meota and District Volunteer Fire Department, RM of North Battleford Volunteer Fire Department, EMS and Battlefords RCMP officers who responded, say the RCMP. The officer was transported by ambulance to Saskatoon for treatment of injuries described as serious, non-life-threatening in nature.
An RCMP collision reconstruction attended the scene and continues to investigate. Detours had been set up around the area Thursday evening, but Highway 4 is now open.
“Our detachment and all the units and employees who live and work in Battlefords area are like family. We’ll continue to lean on each other in the days and weeks ahead and as the injured member navigates recovery,” said Inspector Ryan How, Battlefords Detachment Commander. “I want to recognize those who have extended gestures and words of kindness. These acts truly show the continued support we have from the communities we serve. Thank you.”
This story has been updated at the request of the RCMP to indicate it was the RM of North Battleford Volunteer Fire Department that responded, not North Battleford Fire Department.
