North Battleford Library celebrates Sask. Library Week

SLA's Library Week was celebrated in North Battleford's own library with the start of its annual book sale, a Patron Appreciation day, and contests.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — The North Battleford Public Library celebrated Saskatchewan Library Week with the start of its annual book sale, a book spine poetry contest, and a Patron Appreciation Day on Wednesday of last week.

“It’s library week, and the Saskatchewan Library Association has very kindly provided us with the grants to purchase the goodies … for our patron appreciation day. So, we’re really excited about that. They’re a great organization that highlights local authors, local books, as well as advocates for libraries across the province,” Colin Evans, head librarian for the North Battleford Public Library, said.

The library appreciates the many people who frequent the library, and they showed their appreciation with Patron Appreciation Day. Complimentary juice, tea, and treats were served, with free goodie bags for children, courtesy of the Saskatchewan Library Association.

“We realize we’re a service-oriented community hub that does a variety of different things throughout the year. Of course, without the public coming to the library, we wouldn’t be a library. We depend on them to continue our operations. We have this day just to say thank you and understand how important your library is to the community.”

Wednesday also marked the start of the library's annual book sale, which has been operating since the early 80s. In recognition of library week, the library is also holding a book-spine poetry competition, which runs until Nov. 1. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
