The Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs conference will draw in delegates from departments across Saskatchewan, along with vendors and guests from all over Western Canada.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — It’ll be a full three days for provincial fire chiefs, deputy fire chiefs, and family members as the 74th annual Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs (SAFC) Conference kicks off in North Battleford May 30.

The conference, which runs to June 1, will draw in more than 300 delegates from departments across Saskatchewan, along with vendors and guests from all over Western Canada. The official conference program is set to be hosted at the InnovationPlex.

North Battleford Fire Department Chief Lindsay Holm is on the SAFC Board of Directors and notes the event is always a good learning opportunity for those in management within the fire service.

“This year’s theme is Coping with Social, Economic, and Legislative Change.’ and we have lined up some guest speakers to facilitate some discussions for leadership to consider as they plan for the futures of their respective departments,” says Holm.

“Things evolve or devolve very quickly for first responders, and a lot of that is normalizing the impact that traumatic events have on frontline workers and their family members. We have a keynote speaker coming, Dr. Jody Carrington, who will help normalize these discussions to break down stigmas either within the fire halls or within the families of first responders.”

A limited number of tickets for Dr. Jody Carrington’s keynote speech June 1 at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts are available for first responders and first responder family members. Tickets are $75 each, or $125 each per ticket, including access to the SAFC Conference closing banquet meal. Those interested in purchasing tickets should contact the North Battleford Fire Department at 306-445-1770.
