Update: Tornadoes no longer expected in Battlefords region

, Environment Canada meteorologists said tornadoes are no longer expected in the region. 

NORTH BATTLEFORD - Update 4:  At 7:09 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists said tornadoes are no longer expected in the region. 

Update 3: At 6:42 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.

Affected Areas (3)

  • R.M. of Douglas including Speers Richard and Alticane
  • R.M. of North Battleford northwest of The Battlefords
  • The Battlefords

Update 2: At 6:29 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.

Affected areas include R.M. Battle River including Sweet Grass First Nation and Delmas, and R.M. of North Battleford northwest of the Battlefords.

Instructions

  • Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
  • If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.
  • Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
  • Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
  • As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.
  • Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
  • Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Original post:  At 5:32 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.

A cluster of severe thunderstorm is located six kilometres east of Delmas, moving northeast at 60 km/h. 

Hazard: Ping pong ball size hail and 90 km/h wind gusts.

Locations impacted include: 

R.M. of Battle River including Sweet Grass and Delmas, R.M. of Meota including Meota and the Battlefords Provincial Park, R.M. of North Battleeford northwest of The Battlefords, R.M. of Parkdale including Glaslyn and Fairholme. 

Driving conditions will likely be difficult. Heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Large hail may cause significant damage and injury.

  • If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail.
