Central, northern Saskatchewan hit with severe weather

NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN - Update 3: 9:03 p.m. Tornado alert cancelled. 

Update 2: At 8:14 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damagin winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. 

This storm is located south of Borden, moving east at 30 km/h.

Affected areas are R.M. of Corman Park including Martensville, Warman and Langham. 

UpdateAt 8:07 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a very dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing destructive wind gusts, up to tennis ball size hail and heavy rain.

This severe thunderstorm is located 14 kilometres northeast of Lancer, moving east at 85 km/h. 

A station reported gusts at 113 km/h
Walnut to golfball sized hail were reported also.

Hazard: Tennis ball size hail and 120 km/h wind gusts. A tornado is also possible.

Locations impacted include:
White Bear.

Driving conditions will be difficult. Prolonged or widespread utility outages are expected. Buildings and/or many trees will be destroyed. Heavy rain will cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Large hail will cause significant damage and injury. There is a risk of life-threatening injury.

Original post: At 7:37 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

This storm is located near Radisson, moving east at 30 km/h.

Affected area is R.M. of Great Bend including Radisson and Borden. 

At 7:36 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

This storm is located near Hafford moving east at 30 km/h.

Area affected is R.M. Redberry including Hafford and Krydor. 

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.

Instructions

 

  • Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
  • If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.
  • Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
  • Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
  • As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.
  • Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
  • Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
