It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Mrs. Angela Cecelia Thoms on Friday, April 1, 2011 at her residence, St. Mary's Villa Humboldt at the age of 90 years. Angela was born on September 5, 1920 to Paul and Bernice (nee Diakow) Buchynski on their family farm near Rama, Saskatchewan. Following her education, she operated a restaurant in Rama with her brother, Walter. Angela moved to Humboldt and in 1955 she married Peter Thoms. They took up residency at 227 - 7th Street and they were blessed with three daughters. Along with her great love of gardening, Angela enjoyed many crafts and socializing over a great game of Kaiser, with family and friends. She was labelled "the best cook in the world" by her daughters and also held the title of "Dr. Thoms" due to her vast array of home remedies and treatments. Over the years, Angela managed an apartment building and held other various jobs, but her first priority was always her family. Angela also held the esteemed title of "Queen of Humboldt Mall", enjoying many hours of strolling through the mall and enjoying coffee with friends and family, to be followed later by "Queen of St. Mary's Villa" alongside her friend, Sophie. In October 2006, Angela moved from the family home to the Villa due to failing health and resided there until her death on April 1, 2011. Angela will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Christine (Erwin) Greisinger and stepsons, James (Cheryl) Greisinger, Shane (Shawna) Greisinger and Wade (Serena) Greisinger and their families all of Calgary, AB; Deborah (Bob) Picken of Sherwood Park, AB; and Vivian (Glen) Dale of Humboldt and daughters, Jenna Dale and Tia Dale both of Saskatoon; two sisters-in-law, Anne Thoms and Phyllis Thoms both of Humboldt; members of the Thoms family and by numerous nieces and nephews. Angela was predeceased by her husband, Peter (2001); eight brothers and sisters: Joe, Mike, Walter, Frank, Thomas, Jean, Stella (Ken) Andrews and Mary (Walter) Ryhorchuk; and by members of the Thoms family. Prayers and Public Visitation were held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. A scripture reading was read by Angela's son-in-law, Bob Picken, and an opportunity was held for family and friends to share their memories of Angela, followed by a power point presentation. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Both services were held at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Hwy 5 East, Humboldt and presided by Nestor Trach. A scripture reading was read by Elsie Diakow, words of remembrance were given by Angela's daughters, Christine, Deborah and Vivian, and honorary pallbearers were Jenna Dale, Tia Dale and James Greisinger. Interment will follow at a later date at All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations in Angela's memory may be directed to St. Mary's Villa Foundation Box 1743 Humboldt, SK S0K 2A0. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt, SK.
