HOPFNER - It is with great sadness that the family of Audrey Ann (nee Gerwing) Hopfner, 53 years of Humboldt, share that she passed away after a very short, spiritual and courageous journey with cancer on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, with her family at her side. Audrey was born on August 12, 1957 in Humboldt to Daniel and Bernice Gerwing, the fourth of eight children. She took her education in Lake Lenore. She married her high school sweetheart Grant Hopfner and together they were blessed with five children. For a few years they resided in Yellowknife NWT while there they continued to farm in Lake Lenore a lifestyle they both thoroughly enjoyed. Audrey loved the farm, she was very active in the daily operations, she was always there when the crop went in and when it came off. Her mechanical skills were above and beyond, she was able to fix anything that came her way. She had an amazing work ethic. She was a very hard working woman who was even commended for her driving skills of the Zamboni at the Lake Lenore Rink. Audrey loved sports and was involved in many such as, broomball, curling, softball and fishing. She was an amazing marksman who loved to target shoot and had an outstanding shot! Her love for nature proved true with her talent in gardening, especially her beautiful flower gardens, which would overflow with beauty and abundance. She would spend hours perfecting them and enjoyed watching the butterflies share her gardens. Audrey loved to dance and was a very good dancer. She shared many dances with people who commented on how she floated on the dance floor. Her love for her children always came first, she loved her children dearly and everyone else's children as well. She was very thankful for all of her talents and achievements in life but the two that were very near and dear to her heart were the fact that she had celebrated her 20th year of fellowship with some special people who helped bring peace to her life and her church through which she had learned to be a daughter of the Most High GOD! Through that love of God she was able to travel the journey of cancer with peace and openness, she had NO FEAR as she knew God was at her side. We will all miss Audrey's zest for life, she loved to laugh and have a good time with family and friends. She was also known as being a "true friend". Audrey will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her five children: Elliot Hopfner of Humboldt, Samantha Hopfner of Saskatoon, Evrett Hopfner of Lake Lenore, Jessie (Keith) Hopfner - Richardson of Muenster, and Dwight Gerwing; father of her children, Grant Hopfner of Lake Lenore; parents, Dan and Bernice Gerwing of Lake Lenore; four sisters and one brother, Yvonne, Marilyn, Colleen, Kathy and Barry; and by numerous nieces and nephews; also her special friend, Roger Chapman of Humboldt. Audrey was predeceased by two brothers, Mark and Gerard. An evening of fellowship was held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by, Pastor Murray Lees. Both services took place at Humboldt Alliance Church 1012 6th Avenue Humboldt. Interment will follow at a later date.
