Cornelius Anthony Myers1914 ~ 2012
Connie was delivered by his grandma in his grand-parents log home at their homestead on the shore of Meyers Lake near Pilger, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest of ten children. His proud parents were Fred and Anna Meyers.Connie started school at the St. Bernard Church. A little later the Merrywood School was built where he attended. At the age of 14 he left school to help his father on the farm. His father purchased a threshing machine and a steam engine tractor to power the unit. Connie's job was to run the steam engine as they moved from farm to farm during the fall harvest and his love of the steam engine began. As a young man he started operating machinery on different construction jobs in Saskatchewan, Ontario and British Columbia. He worked on building the Alaska Highway from 1942 to 1949. In 1953 while working on a pipeline near Kamloops he met a co-worker at a local bar. His friend sold him a building lot on the outskirts of Kamloops for $300.00 and thus Connie put down roots. Over the years he built his own house where he resided until his passing. After retirement, Connie started with the Kamloops Heritage Railway rebuilding a steam locomotive and railway cars. The club now operates a tourist train in Kamloops. Working at the shop was Connie's favorite pastime for the remainder of his years. He was also a proud supporter of many charities and belonged to the Kamloops Legion, Kamloops Fish and Game, The Moose Lodge, Vintage Car Club and the Barnhartvale Dance club on Sundays. Connie attended mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on a regular basis. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends. A special thank you to his railway shop family and Arthur Styles who assisted in so many ways. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Reverend Father Peter Hoan Nguyen, Celebrant. Following the service, Connie will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery.
