Dennis Kenneth MeidlSeptember 11, 1947 - March 26, 2012
It is with great sorrow that the family of Dennis Kenneth Meidl of Drake, SK, announces his death at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, SK, on Monday, March 26, 2012. He was 64 years of age. Dennis was born on September 11, 1947, to Louis and Louise (nee Baumann) Meidl at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Humboldt, SK. In 1953, the family moved to Dauphin, MB. Dennis took grades one to five at Eclipse and Smith Jackson schools in Dauphin. The Meidls returned to Saskatchewan and settled in St. Benedict in 1959. Dennis completed his education at Minaki School, then worked for ten years at Burns Packing Plant in Prince Albert until it closed, then worked for the R.M. of Three Lakes for another ten years. Even though he had cancer surgery in September 1990, he carried on and in April 1991, began working as a meat packer at the Drake Meat Processing plant in Drake, where he was employed until January 2012. During his school years, Dennis loved playing hockey. Later, he enjoyed sports as a spectator, particularly on television. Over the years, he spent many other gratifying hours reading, keeping up with current events, and touring around the countryside. Dennis loved driving and anything to do with vehicles. He especially had a passion for vintage tractors and classic cars, and was the proud owner of a Dodge 1971 Superbee. Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret Korosi of Drake, SK; mother, Louise (Rudy) Kurja of St. Benedict, SK; mother-in-law, Margaret Wendt of Humboldt, SK; three brothers and two sisters: Mervyn Meidl of Yellowknife, NT; Rosemary (Bryan) Foley of Quill Lake, SK; and Laura (Keith) Brodbin, Greg (Brenda) Meidl and Michael Meidl, all of Edmonton, AB; six step-children: Allan (Faye) Korosi of Humboldt; Eugene (Michelle) Korosi of Wainwright, AB; Val (Denis) Masse of St. Brieux, SK; Bev Korosi (Roger Lins) and Angie (Duane) Lindbloom, all of Humboldt; and Abbie (Randy) Martin of Melfort, SK; sister-in-law, Olene Meidl of Ardrossan, AB; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Louis Meidl; and by one brother, Brian Meidl. The Prayer Service for Dennis was held at St. Benedict R.C. Church, St. Benedict, SK, on Friday, March 30, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Allen Baumann and Colette Meszaros; Scripture readers were Chad Brodbin and Kyle Brodbin, and the eulogy was delivered by Rosemary Foley. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Benedict R.C. Church on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Richard Meidl, OSB. Others taking part were: Randy Meidl, crossbearer; Laura Brodbin and Shawn Meidl, scripture readers; Courtney Lussier, intercessions; Candice Meidl and Megan Foley, giftbearers. Pallbearers were Willie, Allen, Raymond and Elroy Baumann, David Meidl, and Allan Bremner. Interment followed at St. Benedict R.C. Cemetery.
