Elsie Block

BLOCK :The family is sad to announce that Mrs. Elsie Block, of LeRoy, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the age of 89. Elsie was born on December 9, 1921 in Wartega, Poland to Gustav and Saraphine (Zacharias) Adam.

BLOCK :The family is sad to announce that Mrs. Elsie Block, of LeRoy, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the age of 89. Elsie was born on December 9, 1921 in Wartega, Poland to Gustav and Saraphine (Zacharias) Adam. She obtained her education while living in Poland. Elsie was married to Gustav Block in 1937 and to William Block in 1947. She was blessed with three daughters and one son. In 1951 Elsie, William and their three daughters, Agnes, Ingrid and Gerdy came to Canada. Werner was born after they arrived in Canada. Elsie and William lived in the Jansen area for five years and, then in 1956 they moved to the Drake area and ran a mixed farming operation until 1971, when they moved North of Jansen. In 1976 they retired and moved to Lanigan. Elsie and Bill had numerous janitorial jobs to keep them busy. In 2003 they moved to Humboldt. William passed away in 2006 and in 2010 Elsie moved to Evergreen Country Home in LeRoy. Elsie loved to bake and knit, creating many pairs of slippers for each family member. She always planted a garden along with many flowers, especially petunias. She was proud of being a good homemaker and a gracious hostess. Her home was always the center of celebrations for her family filled with wonderful aromas of her cooking and baking. The hum of laughter and visiting warmed her heart and truly made her house a home! She fed everyone very well and always included care packages as everyone departed. She was very generous with hugs for everyone and made a special effort to keep in touch with all of the family and her many friends. Elsie had a wonderful sense of humour. She was very devoted to her church and her faith carried her through life. Elsie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children and their families: GERDY Kellman of Barbados and family Randy Muller of Kelowna, and his children Ashley (Jed) Robinson and their child Charlie, of Calgary, and Gaileen Muller of Edmonton; AGNES (Bill) Hamilton of Calgary and their children Curtis Nickason of Edmonton and Cory (Lorie) Nickason and their children Brock and Jake, of Saskatoon; INGRID (Ernie) Doerksen of Winnipeg; WERNER Block of Jansen and his family, Jennifer Block of Regina and Sarah Block of Waterloo, Ontario; two brothers, Adolf (Ruth) Adam, of Abbotsford, BC and Rueben (Magda) Adam, of Germany; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husbands, Gustav and William, her parents Gustav and Saraphine, daughter-in-law, Kathryn Bella-Block; 5 sisters, Alena, Matilda, Helen, Ida, and Ruth; and two brothers, August and William. A funeral service for Elsie was held at Tempel Baptist Church, Jansen, SK on Thursday August 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Abe Klassen. Others taking part in the service were: pianist Eileen Block, memorial table attendant Judy Bach, ushers Jack Robson and Alfred Back. Words of remembrance were given by Jennifer Block. Honorary Pallbearers were "All those who shared in Elsie's life". Active pallbearers were Curtis Nickason, Cory Nickason, William Lick, Bill Block, Dave Pollock and Donovan Block. Interment followed at the Esk South Cemetery. Memorial donations in Elsie's memory may be directed to Evergreen Country Home, Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt, SK.
