Freida HenrySeptember 6, 1944 - February 9, 2011The sudden unexpected death of Freida (nee Tesch) Henry of Humboldt occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. She was 66 years of age. Freida, the fourth girl and sixth child in a family of seven, was born on September 6, 1944, to Anton "Tony" and Erma (nee Bowman) Tesch in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt. Her early childhood years were spent in Bruno, where she began her elementary education. In 1953, the family moved into Humboldt, and Freida attended Humboldt Public School "up to Grade 8 ". At that time, she joined the workforce, learning at a young age what hard work was. Freida was employed as a waitress at the Humboldt Café and the Princess Café. Eventually, Freida, her sister Elaine, and a friend moved to Saskatoon. Freida worked at the Bus Depot for a while but, due to the hard economic struggle, returned home to Humboldt. She found employment at MacLeod's and Simpson Sears. In 1963, Freida's son Darrell was born and, the following year, Dallas was born. In 1969, Freida and her sons moved to Saskatoon, where her parents were now living. Freida attended SIAST (Kelsey Campus) where she attained her Grade 10 education. That accomplishment was achieved in spite of the fact that she was a single mother with two small children to care for. In 1972, Freida and her sons moved to Leduc, Alberta. The following year, Freida gave birth to a daughter, Dawn, thus completing the family circle. She and her three children relocated to Edmonton. In 1993, Freida moved back to Humboldt to be closer to her relatives and to live with her son Dallas. A fun-loving and sociable lady, she enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and cards - especially Kaiser, and doing ceramics. Freida was also known as a practical joker, a good cook - particularly lasagna, and the love she had for her dog Angel, who was treated like a son. Her spirit can be truly captured in this story. During her last year at school, Freida got into a fight with the principal, Mr. Codling, over an incident involving the family dog "Midnight" who was eventually sent away to a farm. She says she was so angry at him that "I threw my shoe at Codling and walked out of school and, to this day, I still haven't got that shoe back". Freida will be lovingly remembered by her three children and six grandchildren: Darrell Lowe of Edmonton, AB, and family, Terrence Lowe and Melissa Lowe; Dallas Henry of Humboldt; and Dawn (Darin) Pray of Humboldt and family, Christopher Henry, Micheal Henry, Darren Henry, and Tyler Henry; two brothers and four sisters: Norman (Carol) Tesch of Humboldt; Ruth (Gordon) Wrennick of Saskatoon; Elaine (Duane) Lingel of Kelowna, BC; Erma (Joe) Weber of Humboldt; Mervin (Sharon) Tesch of Langenburg; and Darlene (Rob) Fraser of Saskatoon/Costa Rica; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Tony Tesch (September 21, 2004); mother, Erma (nee Bowman) Tesch (March 2, 2006); one brother, Nelson Tesch; one nephew, Kevin Weber; and by uncle, Fred Bowman. The Funeral Service for Freida was held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, February 12, at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Robert Grout. Others taking part were: Darrell Lowe and Dallas Henry, urn bearers; Katrina Stelzer and Michelle Steier, memorial table attendants. Memories of Freida & a Family's Message to their Mother, written by Dawn Pray was read by Danielle Hoppe. Music ministry was provided by organist Elaine Siegel and vocalists Andrea Pittman, Michelle Steier, and Darin Pray. Interment followed at Humboldt Public Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Dallas Henry Trust Fund. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
