Ivy Sophia (nee Pocock) GrisdaleOctober 3, 1914 - January 31, 2011The death of Mrs. Ivy Sophia Grisdale occurred peacefully at the Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt on January 31, 2011. She was 96 years of age. Ivy was born on October 3, 1914, to Sydney and Rose (nee Partridge) Pocock at their farm home in the Burr district. Ivy was the oldest of five children. She was only 14 years old when her father died and she helped her mother with farm work and looking after her younger siblings. Ivy attended Hillsley and Pilot Grove schools, and became a talented writer, working as a local newspaper correspondent. She was also involved in 4H, the church board, and was secretary for both Farm Forum and Ladies Aid for many years. As well, Ivy used her writing skills to contribute to numerous history books; her knowledge of family histories and connections was incredible. Many came to her for this knowledge, and in 1980 she was part of the committee responsible for Celebrate Saskatchewan. Ivy always created beauty - whether it was her keen fashion sense, cake decorating or her wonderful gardens. Ivy married Ronald Grisdale on October 25, 1933. They took over the Tom Brierly farm and lived in the "home on the hill". They were blessed with three sons: Tom, Gerry and Ronald Jr. Having three boys, they spent many proud days watching sports such as baseball, hockey, curling and track meets. When the boys were grown, Ron and Ivy moved to Humboldt in 1984. Ivy easily made friends wherever she went, and soon became involved in community groups in Humboldt. She was secretary for the Golden Rule Circle, and enjoyed knitting warm items to be donated with the Guardian Angels. Ivy writes in one history book - "loves of my life are my grandchildren, people, animals, gardening and crafts of all kinds". She spent many days sharing her stories and talents with her family and friends, and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her. She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons and their families: Tom (Eva) Grisdale of Humboldt and their daughter Rachel (Kelly) Abrey and children Lorne, Emma and Kamryn; Gerry Grisdale (Vivian Bryant) of Bonneyville, AB, and his children Jeff Grisdale and Jody Grisdale and her daughter Abbie; Ron (Dawn) Grisdale of Humboldt and their family, Tanya (Dave) Wuchner and their daughters Amanda and Danielle, Paula (James) Schuler and children Seth and Jayna, and Kyra Grisdale; by one sister Phyllis Wignes of Humboldt and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald Grisdale Sr.; her parents Sydney and Rose(nee Partridge) Pocock; three sisters: Ethel Pocock (in infancy), Mollie (Charles) Fenn, Dorothy (James) Dale; one brother, Ernest Pocock; one brother-in-law, George Wignes; and two nieces: Lorraine Cochrane and Judy Engele. The Funeral Service for Ivy was held at the Westminster United Church, Humboldt on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Al Hingley. Scripture was read by Amanda and Danielle Wuchner. Tanya Wuchner and Kyra Grisdale played a special song for Grandma. A eulogy was delivered by Tom Grisdale and a Tribute to Ivy was given by Rachel Abrey and Paula Schuler. Organist Joan Jackson, Ivy's long-time friend and neighbour, accompanied the Westminster United Church Choir. Sheila Paton and Lynne Morelli attended the memorial table. Rod Dale, Gerry Morelli, Larry Dale, Kelly Abrey, Dave Wuchner and James Schuler carried the casket. Interment followed at the Wolverine Municipal Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Westminster United Church or the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
