Johanna Anna SchroederAugust 25, 1919 - June 2, 2012

The death of Mrs. Johanna Anna (nee Briske) Schroeder of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, (and formerly of LeRoy, SK), occurred at her residence on Saturday, June 2, 2012. She was 92 years of age. Johanna was born on August 25, 1919, to Robert and Adina (nee Weiss) Briske at home on their farm in the R.M. of Prairie Rose in the Jansen, SK, district. She was raised there and attended Prairie Rose Rural School, where she attained her Grade 9 education. Following her mother's premature death, Johanna stayed home to help with the domestic and farm chores. Later, she jokingly called herself her dad's "hired man". On December 2, 1939, Johanna married Otto Schroeder. Their union was blessed with seven children, six sons and one daughter. During the first year of their marriage, they lived and farmed at Borden, SK, then returned to farm in the Prairie Rose district. In 1948, they relocated to a farm in the LeRoy district where they lived until retiring into LeRoy in 1981. Over the years, Johanna was very active in various community organizations including, 4-H, figure skating, Ladies' Aid, and the Seniors' Drop-In Centre, where she taught crafts. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and curling. As well, Johanna and Otto loved traveling and made trips to China, Italy, Germany, Israel, Brazil, Hawaii, Alaska, and eastern Canada. More than anything, Johanna's greatest passions in life were the Lord and her family. Johanna was able to live at home and continue to be a homemaker until recently when, due to a stroke, she became a resident of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson where she remained until the present. Johanna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of over 72 years, Otto Schroeder of LeRoy; their six sons and one daughter: Jerry (Alma) Schroeder of LeRoy; Robert Schroeder of LeRoy; Stanley (Elaine) Schroeder of Saskatoon; Norman (Gladys) Schroeder of Kelowna, BC; Lorne (Theresa) Schroeder of LeRoy; Adina Schroeder of Saskatoon; and Curtis Schroeder of Spruce Grove, AB; one sister, Frances Schroeder of Lanigan; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
