STADNYK: The death of Mr. John Fred Stadnyk of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was 85 years of age. John was born on August 28, 1925, to Fred and Alice (nee Thoms) Stadnyk at home on their farm in the Carmel district. He grew up there and attended Carmel School. In 1952, John began his lifelong career of farming in the Carmel and Burr areas. He married Victoria Hyshka on July 12, 1952, at Prud'homme in Borshiw Church which was built by Victoria's father. Their union was blessed with seven children, four sons and three daughters. The Stadnyk family lived in Bruno and farmed from town. In addition, John was employed by the C.N.R. In 1968, he and his family moved into Humboldt, where he was a school bus driver and worked for Krueger Implements. John retired from farming at the age of 66. Throughout his life, he was a hard worker and possessed good work ethics. John was also mechanically inclined and could always be counted on to help his family and friends with any repairs they needed. A man of strong faith, John was a very devoted member of All Saints Ukrainian Church. For many years, he was an altar server, and caretaker of the church and cemetery. A very sociable man, John enjoyed visiting around town, often traveling on his bicycle and, later, his scooter. As well, guests to the Stadnyk home were always welcome to visit and enjoy some refreshments. Due to failing health, a year ago John became a resident of St. Mary's Villa, his home until the present. John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Victoria (nee Hyshka) Stadnyk of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt; their seven children, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren: Clarence Stadnyk of Kindersley, SK, and family, Clinton, Carmen and Craig; Les (Vera) Stadnyk of Humboldt and family, Jason, Jocelyn and Renee (Darren) Jaeb and their children Tenley and Hunter; Carol Stadnyk of Ottawa, ON, and family, Marcel and Rebecca; Elaine (Jim) Buchanan of Grande Prairie, AB, and family, Christopher and David; Gloria (Ken) Dowse of Calgary, AB, and son Tyler; David (Laura) Stadnyk of Saskatoon and family, David and Zoey; and Bob Stadnyk of Edmonton, AB, and son Chase; three sisters and three brothers: Sr. Yvonne Stadnyk of Mundare, AB; Harry (Helen) Stadnyk, Steve (Lillian) Stadnyk, and Elsie (Joe) Diakow, all of Humboldt; Irwin (Barbara) Stadnyk of Saskatoon; and Pauline (Lawrence) Halowski of St. David's, ON; sisters-in-law: Erlene Stadnyk of Saskatoon and Helen Stadnyk of Humboldt; brothers-in-law: Don Hurst of British Columbia and Julian Warawa of Edmonton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
