Paul Edward Ludwig May 15, 1928 - July 25, 2012
Paul was born the fifth child in a family of eight to William and Emily Ludwig. He spent his childhood on the family farm and attending school in Bruno, SK. As a young man, he began learning the trade he would make his life's work, carpentry, with his father William. The first major project he worked on was building the Carmel Church. Paul spent a few years in Calgary building houses; he worked on the construction of the Radar Base at Dana and eventually went into his own construction business with his brother Gilbert. Paul's true joy was his family. Paul married Delores on June 28, 1949 and spent the next 63 years sharing love and life with her. They were blessed with only one child, Constance, on May 1, 1951. Paul and Connie shared a common love for animals and could often be found bringing home crows, rabbits, cats and the like. Connie married Ramesh in April 1970 in Bruno, SK. His heart grew more proud with each grandchild: Jody, Ryan, Darla, Trisha, Jamie, Marcus and Payton. There was also a very special niche in his heart for his beloved Bischon Shituzu, Jackpot. Paul is best remembered for his skilled carpentry work. He spent many years building homes for people in the Bruno area and later on, lovely oak furniture for his family. He crafted his own boats and many birdhouses and wigglies to put up at home and the family cabin at Wakaw Lake. Paul's favorite place was his cabin at Wakaw Lake. Paul and Delores had their first cabin at Poplar Beach in the early 1960's and later moved to their present location at Nickorick Beach where they have spent the summers for the past 43 years. Four generations have been able to enjoy time at the lake as Connie spent many summers at the lake with Paul pulling her behind the boat waterskiing for hours. When Connie and Ramesh had the girls, they too grew to appreciate time spent at the lake with Grandpa and Grandma. Ramesh loved to fish and Ryan loved to take photos at the lake. Paul was able to spend countless hours getting into mischief with his great grandsons. Paul spent hours on the lake fishing and catching many fish in his special hole. You could often find Paul sitting on his deck listening to CJWW with his binoculars close by to keep an eye on the birds, squirrels, and everyone on the lake - especially other boats in his fishing hole! Paul will be deeply missed by his family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and has given us a multitude of memories to hold close to our hearts forever. Celebrating Paul's life are: his wife of 63 years Delores "Toots" (nee Stahl) Ludwig of Bruno; one daughter, Connie (Ramesh) Jattansingh of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Jody, Ryan, Darla, Trisha, Jamie; great grandchildren Marcus and Payton and his family members: Gilbert (Audrey) Ludwig, Marcella Lang, Mildred Lemke, Lois Ludwig, Randy (Roena) Dykin, and Jerry (Margaret) Dykin and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Emily (nee Hergott) Ludwig; three brothers: Leander Ludwig, Wilfred (Leona) Ludwig and Benny Ludwig; and one sister, Catherine (Frank) Thurmeier. The Prayer Service for Paul was held at St. Bruno R.C. Church, Bruno, on Monday, July 30, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Ryan Hall and Randy Dykin, scripture readers; Jody Hall and Trisha Jattansingh, eulogists; Myrna Thimm and Annette Huber, memorial table attendants. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno R.C. Church on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Gilbert Ludwig, crossbearer; Ryan Hall and Randy Dykin, scripture readers; Jody Hall, intentions; Darla Jattansingh, candle attendant; Marcus and Payton Hall, giftbearers; Trisha Jattansingh, urnbearer; Myrna Thimm and Annette Huber, memorial table attendants; and Denise Krentz, music ministry. Honorary pallbearers were: Ramesh Jattansingh, Ryan Hall, Marcus Hall, Payton Hall, Gilbert Ludwig, Randy Dykin and Jerry Dykin. Interment followed at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery, Bruno. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Bruno Friendship Centre, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, St. Bruno Building Fund or Canadian Blood Services.
