Robert CollinDecember 16, 1927 - June 12, 2011The sudden death of Mr. Robert Collin of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Peterson, SK), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Sunday, June 12, 2011. He was 83 years of age and the last surviving member of his generation. Robert was born on December 16, 1927, to Julien and Louise (nee Jule) Collin at home on their farm three miles east of Peterson. He grew up there and attended Medomsley Rural School. After completing his Grade 10 education, he farmed with his father. On October 22, 1951, Robert married Evelyn Harvey in St. Augustine R.C. Church at Humboldt. They began their life together on the Collin homestead, and Robert's parents retired into Humboldt. Over the next 12 years, Robert and Evelyn were blessed with five children, one daughter and four sons; however, one son died in infancy. Robert ran a mixed-farm operation and also worked in real estate. In addition, he was an active member of his community, serving on the Sask. Wheat Pool and Peterson Community Hall boards, and helping out at various events wherever he could. In March 1986, he and Evelyn retired from farming and also moved into Humboldt. Robert continued selling real estate until 1993. Over the years, he enjoyed numerous hobbies and interests, especially gardening, curling, fishing, traveling to several locations in Canada, and going on bus trips to the United States. More than anything, he loved keeping up with the activities of his children and grandchildren. Robert will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn (nee Harvey) Collin of Humboldt; four children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Janet (Dave) Runge of Cold Lake, AB, and family, Michael Runge of Calgary, AB, and Crystal (Mark) Agar of Calgary and children Ethan and Benjamin; Brian (Donna) Collin of Saskatoon and family, Tanya Collin (Ricky) of Taiwan, Janelle (Ryan) Paproski of Saskatoon and daughter Mara, and Breanne Collin (Stephen) of Saskatoon; Mervin (Annette) Collin of Peterson and family, Lisa Collin of Saskatoon, Sarah Collin (Catlynn) of Prince Albert, Leanne Collin of Saskatoon, and Christa Collin of Peterson; and Daryl Collin of Peterson; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Brent Collin (in infancy); one granddaughter, Crystal (in infancy); his parents, Julien and Louise (nee Jule) Collin; three sisters: Juliette (George) Paquet, Marie Collin, and Terry (Dave) Rosenberg; and by one brother, John (Elvira) Collin. The Prayer Service for Robert was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Scripture readers were Christa Collin and Sarah Collin, and the eulogy was delivered by Louis Jule. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Agnes R.C. Church, Peterson, on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Daryl Collin, cross bearer; Marcel Paquet and Caroline Hamoline, scripture readers; Merv and Annette Collin, intentions; Janet Runge and Brian Collin, gift bearers; Leanne Collin, musical tribute; Ron and Starr Basset, memorial table attendants.
