CARROT RIVER — Residents in Carrot River and surrounding communities will have access to lab and X-ray services for only one day this week, as the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) continues to face staffing challenges across rural health-care facilities.

According to a public notice issued by the SHA, services will be available at the Carrot River facility on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Outside of this limited window, patients requiring lab or X-ray services will need to travel to either Nipawin Hospital or Tisdale Hospital with a valid physician requisition.

A spokesperson for the SHA said short-term service disruptions — often lasting 24 hours or less — are communicated through local platforms, including social media and physical signage at affected facilities.

“Short-term service disruptions often occur with little notice, and utilizing existing local communications platforms is an effective way to reach the community quickly,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Longer service disruptions — those lasting seven days or more — are also posted on the SHA website.

“Residents of rural communities are rightfully concerned when the health-care services they rely on are temporarily disrupted due to staffing challenges,” the statement continued. “We are committed to restoring services in affected communities as soon as possible.”

For the latest updates on service availability, residents are encouraged to monitor the SHA website and local communications channels.
