HUMBOLDT — Mayor Rob Muench extended his gratitude to retiring city councillor Roger Nordick during a special meeting of council on Aug. 11.

Nordick was first elected in 2012 and went on to serve three consecutive four-year terms. Over the past 12 years, he contributed to a range of civic initiatives, drawing on his background as a firefighter. His work included supporting the public works department, addressing resident concerns and promoting the Communities in Bloom program.

One of Nordick’s most notable legacies is the Humboldt Urban Garden Sanctuary (HUGS), which he helped establish with his wife, Sheila, as part of Communities in Bloom. The garden serves as a tribute to the 2018 Humboldt Broncos and was brought to life through what Muench described as “hundreds of hours” of volunteer dedication from the couple.

Nordick received a service plaque from the mayor at city hall on Aug. 18.
