Traffic stop near Nipawin results in drug and weapons charges

The traffic stop was conducted by conservation officers with Provincial Protective Services, and the RCMP were called in when drugs and weapons were found.

NIPAWIN — Two people have been charged with drugs and weapons offences after a traffic stop by conservation officers on a grid road west of Nipawin.

Nipawin RCMP say that on Aug. 27, at approximately 8 a.m., they were called to assist Saskatchewan conservation officers with Provincial Protective Services who had stopped a male and a female travelling with a significant quantity of illicit drugs and weapons.

Nipawin RCMP officers further searched the vehicle and seized a semi-automatic rifle, a flashlight taser, approximately 200 grams of methamphetamine, 54 grams of cocaine, a sum of cash and additional drug paraphernalia.

As a result of police investigation, a 35-year-old Nipawin man and a 30-year-old Melfort woman are both charged with:

  • 2 counts, possession for purpose of trafficking;
  • 1 count, unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle; and
  • 2 counts, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.

The woman is additionally charged with:

  • 1 count, unauthorized possession of firearm.

The man is additionally charged with:

  • 1 count, possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; and
  • 2 counts, possession of a firearm contrary to order, Section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code.
