Activities warming up in March

It is getting closer to spring and along with hockey playoffs and curling bonspiels there are a few more activities happening in Maidstone. The Winter Reading Program at the public library kicks off this week running Feb.

It is getting closer to spring and along with hockey playoffs and curling bonspiels there are a few more activities happening in Maidstone.

The Winter Reading Program at the public library kicks off this week running Feb. 29 to April 4 on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. This program, "Around the World after School," is for all school-aged children and will offer a chance to learn more about the culture and stories of a different nation each week.

World Day of Prayer 2012 is Friday, March 2. The theme this year is "Let Justice Prevail.". The program was prepared by women in Malaysia. The ecumenical service will be held at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church at 2 p.m.

Pine Island Lodge's annual box social is also being held Friday, March 2 at 2 p.m. Guests are invited to bid on a decorated lunch box to share with a resident. All proceeds will go to Telemiracle.

The Maidstone Gully 4-H Club invite everyone to their Cowboy Poetry Night March 10 at Milleton Hall. Featured performers will be Marg Uhlig, Dick Roney and Louise Lundberg. Tickets are $15 each and available by calling Mary Ann at 893-2729, Meckenzie at 893-4079 or Kassidy at 893-2840.

The Royal Canadian Legion is holding a St. Patrick's Day Dance March 17 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. Doors open at 8 p.m. with music by DJ Ray.

There are lots of ways to get involved in the community and warm up March in Maidstone.
