Battlefords citizens were put in touch with their history during Archives Week, when the the City of North Battleford Historic Archives set up displays at Frontier Mall Feb. 8 and at the Territorial Mall Feb. 9th.

Many more people than last year stopped by the display to view the PowerPoint presentation and to view the exhibits, which focused on the celebratory events of the past 100 years. Since 2013 marks the centennial celebration of the City of North Battleford, it was appropriate to glance back to see how past celebrations were marked. Views of street parades and marching bands as well as individual feats revealed that the citizens of this city knew how to celebrate.

Visitors to the display were eager to investigate Harvey Cashmore's timeline and soon discovered that, in 1916, Saskatchewan women were granted the right to vote for the first time. Most took the time to search for the date of their birth to discover what other significant events took place that same year as well.

Several visitors took this opportunity to bring historical photographs and documents that were donated to become part of the archival collection for posterity and we thank them for this contribution. The collection of materials is an ongoing project and if you are in possession of historical items, we would urge you to contact the archives as 445-1786 or archives@cityofnb.ca.

We look forward to the celebrations of 2013 which will provide the citizens of this city the opportunity to make history once more.
