Why is Mother Nature so mixed up this year? We experienced snow several times since last week's column and it was definitely warmer several days this winter than it has been this spring. I wonder what lies ahead?
Students were back to class this past Monday. Time will move quickly as the last indoor sport at the schools, badminton, will be into the end of their season with playoffs coming up quickly. Track practices are started as its only a few weeks until May's circuit of track and field meets begin.
UCHS drama proudly presented A Sunday Dress Rehearsal Tuesday and Wednesday prior to heading to regional drama festival, this weekend. Their performances are always highly anticipated and enjoyed by all who attend them. Not only were the sets and backdrops magnificent, so were the costumes. And the production definitely had their stand out performances.
Baseball and softball teams are back on the diamond. With Minor Ball Day only a month away, teams want to limber up some arms and skills for this opening season event. Minor Ball Day will be held May 6. May 5, the diamonds will host a Softball Fever camp, which interested participants can still register for on the Softball Sask. Website. That same day, baseball division is hosting the annual Greg Morrison camp for players from mosquito and up to midget.
The slo-pitch league is still looking for teams with the deadline April 27. You can call Mike at 228-2111. The annual Miners Slo-Pitch tournament is slated for May 25 to 27 at the ball diamonds in Unity.

Minor hockey is hosting their annual meeting on April 23 at 7 p.m. in the Armada Inn conference room. Everyone is welcome to attend and any concerns that may be out there will be addressed at this meeting.
The Unity golf course opened April 13, which is a bit earlier than normal. The clubhouse will be open Friday. The greens wintered well. The club is taking a big step to attracting juniors to the game and hopefully will lead to future membership as they are offering golf for 14 and under free of charge. The club will host a variety of tournaments this year with the men's open on Father's Day, the seniors' tourney in August and a scramble in late August. The club has initial plans for a Jack and Jill tournament and a ladies' tournament. The club is taking bookings for corporate, family and group functions.
The recycle centre is now closed and temporary bins have been set up west of the public work shop. Check out the town website or your local paper for all the details on what is allowable material.
Unity is excited with the new shop on the Highway 14 service road called Unity Quick Change Tire and Lube. As well as the variety store in the downtown area called Just Jigs opened April 12.
The African Dream tour of internationally acclaimed African Children's Choir will be presenting a concert at Unity Baptist church, 7 p.m. Friday, April 27. Although the concert is free, a free will offering is taken to support the choir's desire to raise global awareness of the plight of millions of orphaned and abandoned children in Africa.
The Unity Ag. Society is hosting a judges' clinic. This event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with snacks, lunch and coffee provided. You can contact Joan at 228-2758 for more details on this clinic put on free of charge for participants.
With Unity Western Days approaching in June, the committee is actively seeking queen contestants. To be eligible you must be a girl between 13 and 21 years of age from Unity and surrounding area. Each girl needs a sponsor. For more information call Carleen at 228-9315.
The food bank will hold their annual meeting April 26. They welcome new members.
As part of the UN's designation that 2012 was declared International Year of the Co-operatives and Saskatchewan co-operatives declaring the last week of May as "Co-operative Week of Volunteering." Unity Credit Union and Delta Coop have partnered for a project that is sure to excite the residents of Unity and surrounding areas. Watch for announcements on what's happening in Unity May 12 as part of these celebrations.
Have you watched any programs dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Titanic's sinking? How about reading one of the many stories that were put out in the last week or so regarding the event itself or the many fascinating topics that have evolved since that fateful day in the Atlantic? After attending the Titanic exhibit in Regina this winter and seeing the names of survivors and victims, I always think of how many peoples' lives would have been far different if that event had not had occurred. Especially when you see a surname of someone you know in your community, or in the next, and curiously wonder if their family's history would be dramatically altered had this historical event played out differently.
