Ball teams in the medals at provincial events

Unity News: Silver for U12 and bronze for U16 girls’ teams

Four weeks left of summer and it has flown by. Make the most of your weeks ahead. Days will be noticeably shorter before we know it.

Ball teams have been competing in their respective provincials across the province. Results from the July 23-25 events include a bronze medal for the U16 girls with a 5-3 win vs Shellbrook Parkland Heat. The U12 softball girls had a magnificent gold medal game that changed lead multiple times and ended up with the team earning a silver provincial medal. The U14 softball girls and several Unity Cardinals baseball teams in various divisions also competed in provincial quests across the province in July, however after having some wins and some close games, they were not able to secure a spot in their respective playoffs. Left still to play are U19 girls’ softball in Regina this weekend along with the U18 boys’ baseball, a 18AA Tier 1 provincial event Aug. 13 to 15 in Unity. They would love the support and it will be your last chance to take in some ball games.

The Unity Junior Cardinals will compete at the senior men’s Tier 3 AA provincials in Davidson this weekend.

Football fans are not only excited about the Riders hosting games again but will be watching the Prairie Junior Football League as hometown boy, Zenon Orobko, will be playing with the Regina Thunder.

Both of these organizations have a dedicated group of individuals who have started these organizations from the ground up and enlisted volunteers to help with the ongoing practices needed to keep these places viable.

It might seem like the exterior Unity arena renovations are in a bit of a lull, but the process is on track and we will soon be admiring a beautiful new building.

After an online survey about an indoor pool being built in Unity, we understand feasibility and construction surveys are near completion and we will hear more details on this proposed project in the near future. There is only a few weeks left to enjoy the Unity Credit Union Aquatic Centre this summer so be sure to check out their schedule on their Facebook page or the town of Unity website. Pack in your swimming before the season ends in August.

Current Unity Fire Department chief, Leroy Timmermans, is turning over the reins to now Deputy Chief Dwaine Kopp. Timmermans served in the UFD for more than 15 years with nine and a half of those acting as the department’s chief.

Watch Global Saskatoon and you will see former UCHS student, Chantal Wagner, as she is joining the team Aug. 9. Her first on air date will be Aug. 16. Even though the Cardinals are not in the NSRBL league playoffs we have some senior Cardinals alumni on the roster of the Wilkie Brewers who are playing in the series semifinals against the Kindersley Stallions (who also have some Unity Cards and UMB alumni players on the roster).
