Maidstone's Old Time Sports Day is all set for Canada Day and although the disruption of postal services means the schedule of the days' events hasn't been delivered to local mail boxes, it is available at almost every business in the core of Maidstone.

The day will begin as usual with the pancake breakfast at the Legion Hall beginning at 7:30 a.m. and followed by the parade through town with the line-up forming at 9 a.m. at the museum. Slo-pitch, horseshoes, slow tractor races and children's races will be held as usual. Returning this year is the golf cart divorce race from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. A $10 entry fee to attempt the course will be collected with half of the money going to the team with the best time and the proceeds going to Communities in Bloom.

Bingo will still be at 4 p.m. but it will be held under the main tent on the museum grounds this year. The baby crawl race will be held on the main stage at 12:30 p.m. with the opening ceremonies and the singing of the national anthem at 1 p.m.

The Sylvestre family is set to entertain at 1:30 followed by the Maidstone Red Hatters at 2 p.m. Julie Maxwell will take the stage at 2:30 p.m. and the Four Gents will round out the afternoon starting at 3 p.m. There will be food on the museum grounds and in the booth from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The beverage gardens will be open from noon to midnight with music provided by Stereo Ray from 8 p.m. until closing. The event will wind-up with fireworks at 11p.m. There promises to be something for everyone and everyone is invited to celebrate Canada Day in Maidstone.
