Centre activities slow down for the holidays

The Maidstone Drop In Centre monthly meeting was held Dec. 2 with 12 members present. A number of activities at the centre will be curtailed over the holidays. Morning exercises will commence again Jan 9 at 9 a.m.

The card game 500 was played at the centre Dec. 5. Jean Stewart and Margaret MacEachern provided lunch. High score went to Dorothy Schwartz.

There was a good turnout to bingo Dec. 6 with Joan Smith and Margaret MacEachern doing the calling. Norma Hougen and Jean Stewart provided lunch.

Jan. 18 at noon was set for the annual chili on a bun luncheon. Cost is $6 per person with dessert and coffee included.

New high rise toilets have been installed at the centre.

Once a year members enjoy a catered supper at Christmas time. This year the supper was held Dec. 11 with about 100 in attendance. The meal was catered by the Catholic Ladies Altar Society and it was delicious. A program of skits, poems, readings and singing of Christmas carols followed the meal.

Kaiser was played Dec. 12 with Lil McMillan and Bev Stewart hosting and providing lunch. High score went to Lil McMillan and low to Bev Stewart.

Dec. 14 the Christmas Bingo was hosed. Members each bring a $3 wrapped gift and a 50 cent wrapped gift. Each person goes home with a $3 gift and those who win more than once take home 50 cent gifts. Lunch was Christmas cake and oranges left over from the Christmas supper Sunday.

All rotary dial phones will become obsolete in 2012 to be replaced by SakTel with touch tone phones. To have a phone changed call 1-800727-5835. An extra charge of $3.50 per month will appear on your phone bill.
