Ratushniak Elementary School Choir wound up a melodic year with a concert open to the public April 4.

The Ratushniak Elementary School Choir finished their year on a melodic note just before the Easter break.

The spring concert, "Let's Pass It On," was a celebration of song open to the entire community of Maidstone.

Students from Grade 1-5 made up the 27 member choir. In the last few weeks they have performed several concerts throughout the community and made a trip to the Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival.

Choir director Carmen Sperling said the choir won the hearts of the audience at the festival. They also earned the City of North Battleford $50 scholarship, the Four-D Signs and Trophies Pinz-on Ya Plaque for promising rural school chorus and the Davies Shield for school chorus, promising entry.

Sperling said she was happy the choir was accompanied by 15-year-old pianist Cole Knutson of North Battleford at the festival.

At their concert each choir member read a short bit and they sang five songs that included harmonies and actions. The event also included six songs performed by the MHS High School Rock Band.

Choir members received certificates and everyone enjoyed coffee and treats after the show, a sweet celebration of community and song.
