Now that I have your attention with Elvis, Elvis, Elvis as many of you remember, we had our own Legends' Elvis (Melvis). and here we are again. We are getting closer and closer to a Maymont Legends evening of entertainment which I'm sure each and every one of you will enjoy.
We had said earlier doors will open at 7:30 p.m. but, because of the tickets sold so far - tickets will also be available at the door - we will open the doors at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 8, Oct. 26 at the Maymont Memorial Hall.
Your MC will be Mel Deagnon. The backup band leader is Jon Sloan, who plays guitar. Performing with him will be Erin Foreman on fiddle, Doreen Duchnitski on bass, Leeanna Louis on keyboard and flute and Thelma Boychuk on steel guitar.
Performing legends include Kitty Wells (Helmay Loewen), Anne Murray (Doreen Duchnitski), John Denver (Mel Deagnon), Rita McNeil (Shelley Bloom) and George Jones (Carl Ross). Stompin' Tom will be a surprise.
Don't miss this event. Do a date night; visit the hotel for supper and then come hear the Legends.
When you hear Carl Ross sing, if you close your eyes, you would think George Jones is on stage. George was Carl's favourite singer. Carl's voice can be heard at such places like seniors' homes, Pioneer Centre and many other places. Come and enjoy the songs of George Jones.
George Jones was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Saratoga, Texas, into a very poor family. So poor, he sang on the streets as a child. Jones began recording country music in the 1950s. His first hit was Why Baby Why which he recorded in 1955. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1957, and continued to write hit songs into the 1980s. He died April 26, 2013, at age 81.
Mark Nov. 16 on your calendar for the trade show in the Maymont Hall. So far we have 18 vendors attending. More information will follow.
Coming up this weekend is the Sharon United Church fall supper, Oct. 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Maymont Central School gymnasium.
