UNITY — A new columbarium was added to the Pleasant View Cemetery on Aug. 13, weighing over 11,000 pounds.

The new unit, built by Rose City Memorials and placed by Bones Picker Service, found its new home next to the first unit that was placed in the cemetery in 2015. With the addition of the new columbarium, another 96 compartments have been added to the pre-existing 48.

Town of Unity’s director of culture, parks and recreation Lisa Feser, said more and more people are choosing to be interred within the columbarium.

“We have already started selling space in the new unit and planning for another will begin once this new unit is almost sold,” she added.

Currently, the cost of a single plot at the Pleasant View Cemetery is $775, a double plot costs $1,125. In the columbarium, a single space is $1,525 and a companion space is $2,075. These purchase prices are expected to increase over the next two years and do not include any opening or closing costs incurred with a burial.
