Two local watercolour artists have work on exhibition in the Window Salon of the Chapel Gallery. Paintings by Mary Mattila and Margaret Hassan will be on exhibit until the end of April. Each artist brings her own perspective to the work with a range of subjects and techniques. Vibrant and subtle colours reflect the mood of each subject and give the viewer a sense of time and place.

Mary has focused on painting since her retirement in 2004. She has taken classes through the University of Saskatchewan certificate in art and design program and these pieces reflect what she has learned. Margaret is originally from England and has been painting for 25 years. She portrays a variety of subjects, from prairie landscapes to the urban environment.

This is the first exhibition for both artists. They are members of the North Battleford Art Club. The club meets every Tuesday in the craft room at the Don Ross Centre. Members work on individual pieces while sharing ideas and discussing techniques. Anyone with an interest in art is welcome at these weekly gatherings.

A reception for this exhibition will be held April 29 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Chapel Gallery. Everyone is invited to visit with the artists and enjoy their work.

The Chapel Gallery is located in the Don Ross Centre at 891 - 99th Street and is open from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
