Family Fun Day in Paynton was a great success.

Feb. 19, the Paynton Volunteer Fire Department and the Village of Paynton hosted a bon fire. All who attended enjoyedhorse and buggy rides with Duhaime's Belgians, free hot dogs and hot chocolate along with sweet stuff and games for the kids.

Children of all ages loved thehorse ride, from two years old to 82. Smiles filled the buggy. A special thanks to the Duhaim family for donating their time and services tothe event, and toall who donated food and supplies.

The kidswere excited to geta ride in the new fire truck, lights and sirens blaring through the village. Reliance Safety Supply was on site to re-fill the fire department air packs and fire extinguishers. They also sold new fire extinguishersand re-filledor re-certifiedold ones for anyone who needed them.

This event would have not been possible without the volunteers' hard work and planning.Along withthe fire fighters and village councillors, severalPaynton residents pitched in to either cook, clean or helpkeep the fire burning. Due to thefrost and fog, ice and dirt, the pile of debris from the July 18, 2011 plow windwas difficult to burn. It will likely take a few days to finish smouldering but firefighters are keeping an eye on the burn to make sure it does not get out of control.

A little reminder from the Firedepartment: call beforeyou burn. A permit does not cost anything, onlya phone call to your localRM office. The cost of a firecall out starts at $250 for a truck and two firefighters, so save your money and get a permit. Dispatch at 911 will be alerted so emergency services do not show up at your door for nothing.
