Filling boxes for Operation Christmas Child

The Neilburg Composite School SRC is filling boxes with items for Operation Christmas Child again this year. The group is taking donations of small toys for both boys and girls, school supplies and hygiene products.

Chad Graham was the first place winner in the senior colour poster category of the annual Legion poster and literary contest held each Remembrance Day. Chad is a Grade 11 student at Neilburg Composite School.

The Neilburg Composite School SRC is filling boxes with items for Operation Christmas Child again this year. The group is taking donations of small toys for both boys and girls, school supplies and hygiene products. Please do not send items such as toothpaste, food, soft candy or used items, due to customs regulations. Also, do not include decks of playing cards; liquids; items that could spill, leak, melt, freeze or break; nor anything that could scare or harm a child. The SRC is also accepting cash donations and will have coin collections in each classroom.

This is Milk Week - sponsored by Saskmilk, the school milk program. All students purchasing milk this week had their names put in a draw for prizes.

Librarian Deb Hein reports the Out of this World Book Fair was a huge success. Total sales were $2,501.95 and so the school received a credit of $1,174.76. To date, the library has purchased $774.99 in new books! The family event winner was Taryn Timmermans.

Poster winners were Ann Hewko, Corny Giesbrecht, Hallie Goodfellow, Lindsay Gibbons, Kale Worman, Brady Horvath, Jenna McGarry, Shana Flicek, Carl Sawtell, Nick Hein, Loralee Ryan, Brayden Koch, Carter Cammidge, Taeya Wiens and Maddy Fouhse. Book winners were: Connie Lane, Edward Borja, Erich Johnson, Kailee Johnston, Kasey Schmidt, Shaelyn Putnam, Craig Hewko, Skylar Stewart, Kyle Whitney, Cassidy Spence, Clayton Schmidt, Danielle Scott and Connor Urlacher.

The Grade 12 students are selling poinsettias. They are available in three colours - pink, red and white.

The Neilburg School Community Council held their meeting Nov. 7 in the school library. The winner of the Bob Steward Scholarship this year is Leah Timmermans. She will be receiving $300 towards her post-secondary education. The SCC also donated $1,500 to NCS for the purchase of another SMART Board.

The school has applied for a grant from the Prairie North Health Region for the promotion of an after school exercise program. This program will be a yoga/jazz class instructed by Miranda Bachman and is available for those in Grades 7 through 12. There was a discussion about proposed field trips for the year.

Jeff Walso announced he was resigning from the SCC as the teacher representative. There are also other positions available on the SCC for anyone who would have a few extra hours a month to volunteer. The next meeting will be held Jan. 12 in the school library.

The Artland Ladies held their annual craft sale Nov. 12 in Marsden.
